How does body produces healthy hair?

Hair is fastest growing tissue in human body and it mainly consists of “Keratin”. “Keratin” is a material that gives us the elasticity in our fingernails. An average person has 100,000 scalp hairs; some of the variation depends upon color and texture of the hair. Our hair grows inside protective encasement known as “Follicle”.

What is the hair cycle?

“Anagen” is the growth phase or beginning of the hair cycle, it last for 2 to 6 years. Next is “Catagen” phase that last for 2 to 6 weeks. During Catagen phase hairs begin to separate from Follicle. After Catagen phase is Telogen phase that last for 3 to 4 months. During this period hair is pushed out from Follicle and new hair form in its root. Hair have tendency to grow about ˝ inch per month, it is seen that hair grow faster in women as compared to men.

Average number of hair lost on daily basis?

On average terms, we lose approximately 100 to 150 hairs daily. Main reason behind hair loss is transition from Telogen to Anagen phase. New hair continues to grow as long as the follicles remain healthy and intact.

Common causes of hair loss?

There are many factors that causes hair loss, some of them are scalp bacteria, stress, poor nutrition, genetic baldness and in some case hormonal imbalance. Out of these factors genetic pattern baldness is by far the most dominant factor, accounting for nearly 95 percent of all hair loss in men, thus affecting millions of people. Male pattern baldness is treatable as it is determined genetically, but it cannot be prevented.
