Breast Implant Size

Determining the appropriate implant size is one of the critically important steps in breast augmentation. An implant that is too small or too large produces an unsatisfactory result. We believe that the best and most natural results are achieved by selecting an implant that is proportional to a woman's anatomic features. During each consultation, much time is dedicated to this process and together, we will help you find an appropriately sized implant that will achieve your desired results.

Location of Incision for Breast Implant Surgery

There are several places where an incision can be placed for breast augmentation: in the axilla (armpit), through the areolas (pigmented skin around the nipple), or under the breasts. However, there are several factors which will be discussed with you at your consultation. The new silicone gel breast implants are recommended to be placed through an incision in the crease, under the breast.

Position of Breast Implant

Breast implants can be placed either under the breast tissue (subglandular or submammary) and on top of the pectoralis muscle or under both the breast tissue and the pectoralis muscle (subpectoral or submuscular). Implants may also be placed in a "Dual Plane" position as well. Most recently, the trend has been to use a new technique called "subfascial" placement. The doctors of the Western Reserve Center have been using this position with great results while minimizing the recovery period. The thickness of the breast tissue is a key determinant in planning the best placement of the implant. Patients with little to no breast tissue are encouraged to have the implants placed under the muscle to provide as much coverage as possible.
